Directions:
Protect your workspace by putting newspaper down before starting. Lay your materials out and begin first by painting one toilet paper roll. Set aside to dry. On the second roll glue down feathers, yarn and confetti. Set aside to dry. On the third roll adhere the fabric strips with glitter glue (any combination of these materials is also fine - use whatever you have on hand). Once all three rolls are dry connect them all by drawing the string or yarn through one piece of styrofoam. Secure the end with a bead and tying a knot in the string or yarn. Draw the string or yarn through the three rolls and the second piece of styrofoam. Tie it off with a beaded knot. Have your child draw a face on the caterpillar.
Supplies
- Butterfly Materials:
1 white coffee filter
Diluted food coloring, temperas, or water colors
Clothes pin
2" Pipe cleaner
Sharpie pen (with sharp point)
Directions:
Place the filter on top of covered work area. Drip the colors onto the filter for a tie-dye effect. Let dry. Gather the filter together in the middle and secure with the clothes pin. Fold the pipe cleaner into a V shape and secure at the top of the clothes pin. Have your child draw a face on the clothes pin with the Sharpie pen.
